The ‘Grange aux Verrières’ (Stained Glass Barn) is located in Saint-Hilaire en Lignières, a small village not far from Bourges in the Berry region (18), France. The stained-glass exhibits are displayed with simplicity and harmony, adding a strong sense of presence, exchanges and reflection. The barn mirrors Jean Mauret’s nearby studio, where he works and reflects on the role of light and colours in buildings.
The ‘Grange aux Verrières’, a ‘shrine’ dedicated to stained-glass, initially appealed to Jean as a way to extend his artistic approach, hence the creation of the ‘Grange aux Verrières Association’ in august 2008.
The first exhibition took place in October 2009 drawing a large number of visitors.
The stained-glass displayed stem from different periods in his personal research. Jean attempts to show the invisible, traces of a bygone world which fills us with nostalgia. He shares his enthusiasm, joys and certainties, but also hesitations, doubts and at times, a deep sense of solitude.
Jean Mauret is keen for the ‘Grange aux Verrières’ to naturally become an integral part of local cultural and artistic visitor attractions in the Bas Berry region, which include the pottery museum at Châtelet-en-Berry; the ‘Pôle du Cheval et de l'Ane’ at la Celle-Condé; the concert hall of ‘Les Bains-Douches’ in Lignières; the cultural centre of ‘l’Abbaye de Noirlac’; the medieval gardens at the Orsan priory and Georges Sand’s house in Nohant...
For this space to fullfill its mission, the Association "La Grange aux Verrières Jean Mauret" was established in August 2008. |
